The Shafik Gabr Foundation and Humanity in Action launches the Gabr Fellowship.

The Fellowship is an innovative international educational exchange created to foster greater understanding and cooperation among emerging leaders in Egypt and the United States. It will take place from June 2-16 in Egypt and from October 19 – November 2 in the United States.

The Fellowship was established on the initiative of Shafik Gabr and is generously sponsored by the Shafik Gabr Foundation. It will be organized by Humanity in Action.

The Gabr Fellowship will bring together a diverse group of 20 promising young professionals from across Egypt and the United States – 10 Egyptians and 10 Americans. Together, they will travel to both the United States and Egypt to develop a better and in depth understanding of each other’s societies, customs, traditions, religions, politics, law, art, science and both social and business environments. Moreover, they will meet with renowned public figures to explore challenges faced by their societies and the global community today. The range of topics will be broad to reflect complicated and interconnected issues: fine arts and literature, religion, history, commerce and trade, international affairs, development, poverty and income distribution, mass communications, media and technology, environmental protection, political and legal systems, science and public health.

Designed as high-level introductions to complex topics, these sessions will be intellectually rigorous and will form the basis for further inquiry. The Gabr Fellows will be required to develop collaborative action projects to address one or more of the issues discussed relating to art, science, media, law or entrepreneurship. By implementing these projects, the Fellows will bring their experience during the program to impacttheir peers and societies with the objective of sustainable bridge building.

Through collective learning, the Gabr Fellows will acquire a greater understanding of both Egypt and the United

States and the mutual challenges the countries face. The fellows will be interpreters for one another as they confront issues common to their Egyptian and American societies. The Fellowship is designed not only to introduce these emerging leaders to shared challenges, but also to create a network of Egyptians and Americans who can candidly and constructively address national and international issues in the future. Their ongoing collaborations will be the Gabr Fellowship’s legacy.

The first year of the Gabr Fellowship, “East-West: The Art of Dialogue” will establish a foundation for future transnational cooperation and exchange. The Shafik Gabr Foundation intends to continue to broaden the initiative’s scope and impact by multiplying both its programs and participating countries. Additional financial support from Eastern and Western corporations and philanthropists will continue this initiative.

Perfectly situated within the Recoleta district’s nostalgic Belle Époque architecture, the Algodon Mansion exudes class through every pore of its French classical façade. Boasting just 10 suites across 4 floors, this boutique hotel assigns 24-hour butlers to each room, which helps to convey the elegance and establish the privacy one can expect during their stay in this Argentine masterpiece. Each room hints at its own storied history with imported dark woods and Italian marble throughout, yet a recent renovation brought with it increased comfort and technology upgrades. The steam-showers feature multi-jet fixtures, and the comfortable soaking tubs emit a warm glow of colorful lights. In the Ambassador Suite, the sumptuous bed is surrounded by cream-colored suede walls and silk curtains, while ample light filters across the room courtesy of the light well waterfall that travels down five stories in the adjacent lobby. The crown jewel of the Algodon Mansion is the spacious Royal Suite. Clocking in at a generous 1,300 square feet, this opulent chamber includes a dining room, living room, and a wet bar that serves as a shrine to wine.

When you are able to pull yourself away from the comfortable confines of your room, make your way to the lobby bar, which features a Veuve Clicquot branded lounge. Known for serving the finest Cognacs, this is the perfect spot to whet your appetite, as the in-house restaurant Chez Nous is just across the hall.
Just as the Algodon Mansion is the first Relais & Châteaux hotel in Buenos Aires, the famed Chez Nous is the second restaurant in the city to be awarded this noble distinction.

The restaurant’s limited number of seats allow for an intimate dining experience, which is almost required as the dishes deserve your full attention. The seasonal menu reinterprets traditional Argentine dishes with a French twist, all the while using locally-sourced ingredients. Additional ingredients are acquired from sister property, Algodon Wine Estates, in San Rafael, Mendoza. This award-winning wine resort provides the restaurant with fruit, vegetables, olive oil, and a multitude of fine wines. As you comb through the menu, seeking out the perfect meal, your server brings a trio of breads that are baked in-house, complimented by a delicious olive-butter tapenade. When in Argentina, you must try the local favorite: empanadas. The Chez Nous version includes a delicate pastry that did not interfere with the gourmet beef filling, while the accompanying chimichurri provided a fragrant focal point. The staff is far from obtrusive, but masterful at filling your wine and water glass so that it never appears to have emptied at all. Before you know it, the entrées arrive promptly, almost out of thin air. We dined on free-range grilled chicken with sautéed vegetables and a cut of the legendary Argentine beef, which was surrounded by crisp roasted potato wedges. The portions were quite generous, but we managed to parlay the evening into a nightcap of delicious Dulce de Leche.

The next morning, we took breakfast in the comfort of the oversized King bed, before spending a lazy afternoon relaxing in the summer sun on the rooftop teak deck. When the heat becomes too much, you can easily cool off with a quick dip in the adjacent plunge pool. This penthouse veranda oasis also has a Davidoff Cigar lounge on offer, and a cocktail bar serving refreshments. Across from this playground is the hotel spa, providing the latest treatments and technology from Europe’s finest spas. With an emphasis on organic, non-invasive, and non-aggressive products for the face and body, Le Spa is the ideal retreat for the weary traveler. The hotel is also available for private events and parties, and has a nice collection of top companies that have taken advantage of this fact, including Chanel, Citibank, and Sotheby’s. Should you require complete privacy for your family and guests, the Algodon Mansion offers you the privilege of renting the entire mansion.

The savvy globe trotter heads across the equator, where summer and plentiful sunshine await. Buenos Aires is an ideal destination, and Francis Ford Coppola’s Jardin Escondido is the idyllic retreat for those who seek out comfort and privacy.

It is no secret that Beyond Black is enamored with the collection of Francis Ford Coppola’s resorts and villas. As with their sister property, Blancaneaux Lodge, the Coppola collection has once again afforded the public the opportunity to live as Coppola does (when he is out of town, naturally).Located in the fashionable and vibrant neighborhood of Palermo Soho, the Jardin Escondido has just six rooms and a single studio on offer. Each room has its own name, comprised of members of the Coppola family, as well as a few of Mr. Coppola’s favorite writers. The property is built around a luscious and colorful courtyard, which is encompassed within three levels of gardens and multiple terraces, where plants of all varieties make their home. Eleanor, Coppola’s wife and interior designer, was responsible for decorating the space, and each room features art from their private collection. The location of Jardin Escondido is impeccable, within walking distance to the chic fashion boutiques, restaurants, and bars of Palermo Soho. This sought-after neighborhood attracts an eclectic mixture of artistic locals, and the results are apparent as you take in the scene around the bustling Plaza Cortázar.Upon arriving to the Jardin Escondido, you are greeted by one of the home’s long-time staff, who will offer you a refreshing cocktail of your choice – the open bar is within view of the living room and at the ready. During your time there, you will likely run into several other guests, but if you require more discretion, you are free to rent the entire house for your family.

Argentines are a social people, so it was a pleasure to mingle with fellow travelers and swap our stories. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself joining a Parrilla during your stay. The staff, led by the hospitable Germán Rozo, can arrange an Asador to operate the grill while you relax in the courtyard. This traditional Argentine barbeque is an essential experience not to be missed. As if you needed more reason to feel like you are being treated to a weekend getaway at someone’s fabulous house, you awake to the smell of fresh baked banana bread, as it permeates throughout the two levels. A complimentary breakfast can be found as you wander down the stairs to the living room, full of pastries, cereals, fresh fruits, café, espresso, and eggs any way you desire.

After a full day of sightseeing and shopping, lounging by the courtyard pool while enjoying the final hours of daylight makes for the perfect remedy for your sore feet. In this hidden garden, you can hear the calls of the songbirds that make their homes in the rainforest atmosphere overhead. As you enjoy sips of the local Malbec wine (selections made by house sommelier Nigel Tollerman), you may catch a glimpse of the staff planning for tomorrow’s breakfast feast. During these warm, relaxing days of Argentine summer, the nighttime breeze kicks up and brings with it a comfortable tranquility.

The first edition of Art13 London, the city’s new modern and contemporary art fair will take place at Olympia Grand Hall in West London from 1-3 March 2013 (VIP preview: 28 February 2013). The Fair, sponsored by Citi Private Bank, has been founded by Art Fairs London Ltd, the organisers behind the ground-breaking ART HK: Hong Kong International Art Fair, of which Art Basel acquired a majority stake in 2011. The Fair’s Director is Stephanie Dieckvoss who was Fair Manager of Frieze for four years before co directing ART HK for its first two years.
Art13 London is unique in that it will be global – bringing over 120 galleries from 30 countries, both from the West but also from right across Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. 70% of galleries will be participating at a fair in London for the first time, while 50% of works presented will be created by non-western artists.

With the ever-growing focus on the East, Art13 London will welcome a significant number of leading galleries from across Asia, from territories including China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and India, including Boers-Li, Beijing, Pearl Lam, Shanghai. Amelia Johnson Contemporary, Hong Kong, Super Window Projects, Japan, Hakgojae, Seoul, ARTSPACE, UAE and Volte Gallery, Mumbai. The Fair will also host galleries from the UK and Europe including Karsten Schubert/Richard Saltoun, UK, Galeria Fumagalli, Italy and Kalman Maklary Fine Art, Hungary, as well as from South Africa; BRUNDYN + GONSALVES, Cape Town and Everard Read, Johannesburg.

To underline the Fair’s passionate commitment to showcasing young galleries to an international audience, Art13 London welcomes emerging galleries in the Young Galleries section, which will feature 18 galleries under six years of age. Furthermore, a separate section, London First, advised by leading curator and academic Lisa Le Feuvre, will offer 17 young galleries who have never before participated at a fair in London, the opportunity to exhibit on a global stage.
The global aspect of the fair is also reflected in the Advisory Board, a group of distinguished collectors and curators who support the Fair’s mission to provide an exceptional opportunity in London for both seasoned and new collectors to encounter modern and contemporary art from the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa. Members of the Advisory Board for the Fair include Charles Saumarez Smith CBE, Philip Dodd, Li Bing, Thomas Shao, Sunhee Kim, Ramin Salsali, Frank Cohen, Philip Dominique and Sylvain Levy, and Sydney Picasso.

What: ‘Animal Planet’ Summer Ball (Bal de l’Été)
Where: Sporting Monte Carlo
When: 8pm Friday 17 June to Sunday 19 June
Dress: black tie

Flushed with the success of last year’s ‘La Dolce Vita’ theme, the organizers of the Monaco Summer Ball are once again guaranteeing a fantastic party that promises to unleash the wild animal in all its guests. And the event really is going to have guests roaring with delight, as savage drumbeats and wild musical rhythms fill the air with passionate excitement.

Basking in the high patronage of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and organized by Princess Catherine Colonna de Stigliano, the ball – now a sweet sixteen years old – is always taken as one of the first signs of summer in the Principality. And what better way of preparing for the forthcoming princely wedding between two great ambassadors of the natural world than to celebrate with the call of the wild?

The glittering weekend, tickets for which are available from €400, starts on the Friday evening with a beachside reception before continuing to the famous Jimmy’z nightclub. On Saturday – after an energetic game of tennis or spa treatment at the Thermes Marins - champagne will be served in the gardens of the Sporting Club followed by a gala dinner at the Salle des Etoiles (black or white tie), and dancing till dawn to music provided by top DJ Ariel Wizman.

And on Sunday, not only is there the traditional breakfast and brunch, served from 10.30am till 3.30pm on the terrace of the Hôtel de Paris, but also a final visit to the animals’ watering hole at the Buddha Bar from 11pm

Programme:

17 June: 8pm Beach Club Cocktails moving on to Jimmy’z Nightclub
18 June: 8pm ‘Animal Planet’ Gala Dinner at the Salle des Etoiles
Drumbeat of the Night, raw rhythms from DJ Ariel Wizman, and dancing till dawn
19 June: Sunday brunch from 10.30 to 3.30 on the terrace of the Hotel de Paris
8.30pm Farewell Roar and last raid on the terraces of the Beach Plaza
11pm: ‘Watering hole’ at the Buddha Bar

As is customary, an auction will be held at the gala dinner to raise money for the Order of the Knights of Malta, a major NGO whose role in managing hospitals and care centres worldwide cannot be underestimated.

Fashion Show: 27 May, 7-9pm
Now practically hardwired to the GP scene, the Amber Lounge party is the only way to go if you’re here for race weekend. Four exclusive locations appear on this year’s party circuit, all set at Grand Prix venues – Monaco, Singapore, Delhi and Abu Dhabi – but the one with the most buzz is bound to be Monte Carlo, with its three nights of non-stop partying.

Last year saw 26 Formula 1 drivers party the night away with royalty of all flavours, from princes and princesses of Hollywood and Bollywood, all the way up to the genuine article in the form of Princess Beatrice of York and of course Monaco’s princely family. This year, Prince Albert II will be joined by bride-to-be Miss Charlene Wittstock, raising funds for their chosen charity the Special Olympics, and helping athletes with intellectual disabilities achieve their dreams.

This year, the event is bigger than ever, with individual passes starting at €650 and tables for eight people from €5200 to €15000 (all passes include complimentary drinks and champagne throughout the evening). On Saturday night pop sensation Taio Cruz sings his No. 1 smash hits ‘Break your Heart‘ and ‘Dynamite‘; while Black Eyed Peas DJ Motiv8 will rock Sunday’s After Party until dawn. Tickets for Amber Lounge Dining start at €250 per person or €2000 for a table of eight.

Meanwhile, Amber Lounge Fashion, the only event to unite the worlds of high speed racing and haute couture, will see a whole host of Formula 1 stars taking part. Tickets start at €500 to see the heroes of the racetrack take to the catwalk. Those already signed for 2011 include Felipe Massa, Vitaly Petrov, Adrian Sutil, Paul di Resta, Jaime Alguersuari, Nico Rosberg, Jerome d‘Ambrosio, Heikki Kovalainen, Sergio Perez and Vitantonio Liuzzi. See more in the video below from Official Beauty Partner Skin Society

And if you like the sound of all this magic, why not sign up yourself for the rest of the calendar, taking in Singapore and Delhi before jetting off to Abu Dhabi? With a stunning new venue at Yas Links Golf Club on Yas Island and an intimate setting with limited passes available, the end of season party will certainly exceed expectations of even the most loyal of Amber Lounge followers!

Jeroboam Tables – €15,000 per table (8 guests)
Jeroboam tables seat eight guests and are simply the best seats in the house next to the celebrities, sporting personalities and VIP’s. Upon arrival these tables are presented with a Jeroboam of Dom Perignon champagne followed by unlimited Dom Perignon and all other drinks all night, with dedicated waiting staff for each table.

VIP Cristal Tables – €8,950 per table (8 guests)
