When I first began advocating sustainable luxury seven years ago, it was considered an oxymoron. But over the past few years it has been shown that the two concepts, luxury and sustainability, are not necessarily opposing but can in fact be very complementary. Luxury celebrates the authenticity of craftsmanship, noble materials and a notion of time and heritage which all lead to the creation of rare and beautiful objects. It is based on the respect for traditional knowledge, handed down through generations and the respect for quality materials. As such, at its core it shares the same values as sustainability: respect for nature’s resources and the human being.
