Cork Street, the much loved and iconic art gallery district of London, is to close shop – quite literally.
We hear that Westminster Council has approved an application to turn it into yet another shopping street, selling expensive bags and other “luxury articles” for the well-heeled.
A sad day for art and independent gallerists – and for London whose landscape has changed so dramatically over the past decade. Some of the new developments evoke Prince Charles’ carbuncle quote in their ultra-high end ugliness.
